How to Choose a Jade Bead Bracelet: Size and Authenticity Guide

A jade bead bracelet is comfortable, easy to size, and simple to layer — which makes it one of the friendliest ways to start wearing jade. But bead bracelets are also where a lot of dyed and imitation jade hides. Here is how to choose a real one and get the size right.

Pick a bead size that fits your day

Bead diameter changes both the look and the comfort of a bracelet:

  • 6 mm: subtle and light — great for layering and delicate wrists.
  • 8 mm: the balanced all-rounder for daily wear if you type, cook, or commute.
  • 10 to 12 mm: bold and substantial, but heavier and more likely to knock around.

If you are not sure, 8 mm is the safe middle ground for everyday comfort.

Getting the fit right

A bead bracelet should have a little give so it moves without sliding off. Measure your wrist circumference with a soft tape, then add a small amount of ease. Unlike a solid bangle, a strung bracelet can usually be restrung a bead or two longer or shorter, which makes fit far more forgiving.

How to spot real jade beads

This is the important part. Cheap bead bracelets are often dyed quartzite, glass, or Type C dyed jade. A few honest checks:

  • Read the beads as a group. Natural jade beads vary slightly, like siblings. If all beads look like identical twins, that uniformity can point to dye or molded material.
  • Look at the drill holes. Under a loupe, dye tends to pool in telltale halos around the holes and in surface cracks.
  • Check the surface. Real jade feels smooth and slightly waxy, with a glassy luster rather than a plastic shine.
  • Be wary of certificates as the only proof. Lab reports are expensive, so only higher-value pieces tend to carry them — an honest seller should still tell you plainly whether the beads are Type A.

Type A is what you actually want

Natural, untreated Type A jadeite holds its color and its value. Type B has been bleached and filled with resin; Type C has been dyed. Both can look bright at first, but the treatment can fade and the material is worth far less. If a bead bracelet seems too cheap and too perfectly colored, treat that as a warning.

Every bead bracelet at Brother Ryan Shop is authentic natural Type A jadeite, sourced directly from Burma and never dyed, bleached, or resin-filled. Each one is one of a kind and verified live before it ships, so you receive the exact beads you saw — no stock photos, no substitutions. We are based in Clovis, California.

Jade bead bracelet buyer checklist

  • Choose 6 mm for subtle, 8 mm for everyday balance, or 10 to 12 mm for a bold look.
  • Measure your wrist and allow a little ease for comfortable movement.
  • Expect gentle natural variation between beads — not identical twins.
  • Inspect drill holes and cracks for pooled dye.
  • Confirm the beads are natural Type A jadeite, not dyed or filled.
